Biography
Luke Denton McComish (b. 1996, Ireland) paints interiors and the people who inhabit them. His figures are drawn from a close circle — friends, family, rooms he has lived in — and they are held in the pause before a gesture resolves.
Working in oil on linen over several weeks, he builds a muted underpainting and breaks it with saturated passages of orange, ochre and cobalt, so each image holds two temperatures at once. The surface keeps a record of his hesitation.
He is the founding artist of Hägring No. 01. His works are held in private collections in Ireland, France and Sweden.
